Concordia Parish
803 Myrtle St. | Vidalia, LA 71373
318-336-5633 | http://vidaliala.com
Vidalia on the legendary Mississippi River in Concordia Parish (Spanish for harmony), boasts its new riverwalk and Riverfront Conference and Convention Center. Dinner on the patio at the new Comfort Suites Riverfront Hotel gives one the feel of city elegance, yet the peacefulness of a quiet Delta town. A favorite beginning to a scrumptious meal is a crabatini (served in a martini glass). Everyone saves room for sweet potato bread pudding & praline sauce. A favorite, Molly B's catfish, is covered with a secret, savory sauce and named after owner Jeff Bairnsfather's daughter Molly, a pleasure to meet. A panoramic view of Historic Natchez Under the Hill is just across the river. Area tours of antebellum mansions and Frogmore Plantation (selected by Rand McNally as a Southern "must-see" destination) give a thorough history of 1800's life for the wealthy planters and their slaves. Contrast history with an ultra modern computerized cotton gin. A stroll along the river on the lighted, brick path ends at the River View RV Park with pool, full amenities, and no extra charge for the gorgeous live oaks. Free to the public in nearby Ferriday is the La. Secretary of State's Delta Music Museum and Hall of Fame. Professional exhibits, photos and videos give visitors a rare, intimate look into the lives of famous Delta musicians. Sounds of national, regional, and local talent ring through Ferriday's 1912 storefronts at the Delta Music Festival, the first Saturday in April. Concordia is a fishing and hunting haven. Acres of sandy loam and pristine oxbow lakes harmoniously scatter the rich Delta cotton land, left as the Mississippi changed its course. The Duck's Nest restaurant, named after the abundance of mallards and hens on Lake St. John, features sweeping views of Louisiana heron, pelicans and indigenous wildlife. David's Blackened Crawfish Supreme and Catfish Spokane are must haves on the menu. Lodging and campsites are available. Providing harmony on the river, the lakes, the music, food and family, Concordia is the perfect place for a relaxing weekend.
